So many Christians—and so many churches—read the Bible and yet do not truly encounter the word of the living God. This is because we misinterpret what we read, ignoring the context of the verses and passages we are looking at, and twist them to mean whatever our own fallen and foolish hearts prefer to hear. This book is a vital corrective to all such mishandling of the word of God. It succeeds in giving us a way to correctly handle the word of truth, so that we truly hear God speaking to us through the Scriptures. This is quite simply an excellent book—thorough, clear, helpful and practical. The language is simple and straightforward (avoiding unnecessary technical terms), while the illustrations and passages used as worked examples are very relevant to the African context. Biblical hermeneutics entails seeking to arrive at the original intention of God and the author of the Bible. Arriving at the original intention of God and the authors of the Bible comes from qualitative time for intense study. Arriving at the original intention of God and the authors of the Bible demands studying the biblical text in its historical, grammatical, and literary context. Who would benefit from reading it? Well, you and I for a start—and all pastors, all theology and Bible students, and all Christians who are serious about reading the Bible properly! Who would benefit from reading it? Well, you and I for a start—and all pastors, all theology and Bible students, and all Christians who are serious about reading the Bible properly!
